Farm Update

The farm has been a lot of fun this year and full of new adventures for our family.

Adventure number 1: Taylor planted peas in the field around the house. Who would have ever thought peas would be so picky and trying to just to get watered. It has been fun to watch the peas come up. When they flowered there was a pretty purple and white flower covering the whole field. The peas taste good too.
Just a random picture I took while I was out taking pictures of the peas.
Adventure number 2: Back in April we blogged about the chickens we received from Taylor's brother, Spencer. They were getting big and the girls loved going out to see them. They drove me crazy because they were always in my flower beds, but deep down I really liked having them around. At the beginning of the month when I was down in Utah and Taylor was at Scout camp we had an intruder. Taylor came home to all of our chickens gone and nothing but piles and piles of feathers all over the yard. We don't know what got them, but it really is sad they are gone, a sad day at the Marecle household.

This was the last picture I took of them before they disappeared
The four other roosters we had for some reason didn't like this particular rooster, and would not let him in the yard or anywhere near the coop. Therefore he was saved from the prowler because he was forced to live out in the peas. He is now known as Rooster Cogburn and he thinks he owns the yard. The second you go outside he runs right up to you to say hi. He is nice and the girls can even pet him. The bad part is he doesn't lay eggs and he starts crowing at 5 in the morning, it's not just one or two crows, it's about one every 10 seconds until 7 am. We are thinking of getting more hens to keep him company, but if the crowing doesn't stop he might just end up on the dinner table. We'll see what happens because he is a beautiful rooster and helps keep Daisy our cat company.

Rooster Cogburn
Adventure number 3 is Porco (aka pig in Portuguese). Once again we received him from Taylor's brother Spencer. He was a runt and they bottle fed him up until now. We now get the pleasure of raising him. He is a lot of fun. He gets really excited when you come by to say hi, he will jump around and squeal. The girls always look forward to seeing him.
